The road climbs gently out of the pretty town of Arta (a great lunch stop) for around 2km before starting to rear up at the final turning for 3.5km to the summit. The surface is decent throughout and the gradient rarely reaches doubles figures. Magnificent views are abound back to Arta and beyond to the South Coast.

However the real joy of the climb isn’t revealed until you reach the summit. A panoramic view of the bays of Alcudia and Pollenca, the Serra Tramuntana mountains and Cap de Formentor reward any climber to reach the top. The monastery itself is 2.5km down from the main summit. The views are spectacular all the way down and the Ermita has a peaceful ambience.
